Le Sueur Co. Board hears transit update
The Le Sueur County Board of Commissioners heard an update on the Tri County Transit System during the Tuesday, Jan. 24, meeting in Le Center.
Mike Lagerquist, VINE Faith & Action Community Engagement Specialist, discussed the rural transportation system which is currently being developed for the counties of Le Sueur, Blue Earth, and Nicollet.
Lagerquist said they are looking at developing a route system, which will hopefully include a bus in all three counties.
The system will provide rides to individuals in rural areas. Lagerquist said they have sent out numerous surveys and have currently received nearly 600, with the highest response totals looking for rides to medical appointments and shopping.
Work will continue on this transit system within the county. VINE and MnDot, along with the three counties, have been working on this transportation option for a number of months.
In other Le Sueur County Commissioner business:
* Salaries for four county elected officials were approved.
Sheriff David Tietz will receive a 5 percent increase in salary ($110,450.48). Auditor- Treasurer Pam Simonette ($98,337.05), County Attorney Brent Christian ($99,727.22), and County Recorder Sharon J. Budin ($70,711.09) each received a 3.5 percent increase.
The commissioners voted 3-1, with John King voting against the increases.
"I think it is a bad path to go down to treat elected officials in the courthouse differently,” King said.
Commissioner David Gliszinski presented the motion with the 1.5 percent increase for the county's top law enforcement officer. He felt with the new enforcement center coming soon and the added responsibilities the sheriff will have, warranted an increase.
* Soil and Water District Manager Mike Schultz presented the board with a list of 11 ditches in the county which that are in the poorest condition.
