Le Sueur Co. Board OKs ranch and lake requests

The Le Sueur County Board approved two planning and zoning requests for conditional use permits (CUPs) as part of its meeting agenda for Tuesday, Oct. 28.

Planning and Zoning Administrator Kathy Brockway presented the following items for board approval:

-Lake Washington Improvement Association (applicant), Connor's Point Co-op Association, Jan Prehn, Eileen Wells, Madison Lake (owners), a CUP to allow grading and filling of approximately 316 cubic yards of material for the construction of three rain gardens in a recreational residential district on a recreational development lake (Washington) in Washington Township.

-His Haven Ranch Company, New Prague (applicant), Jeff and Kelly Bohn, Le Center (owners), a CUP to allow applicant to operate a riding academy/stable in an agricultural district of Derrynane Township. Conditions include: Review CUP in October 2010 and work with Le Sueur County feedlot officer regarding manure management.

Also at Tuesday's meeting:

• Wanda Mausehund of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and Mike Malling of the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge appeared before the board for certification of a wetland easement signed earlier by Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Kroyer of Le Center. The area is located in Section 15 of Derrynane Township on Renneberg Lake.

• Highway Engineer Darrell Pettis reported that an additional $56,000 has been added to the grant from the Minnesota State Transportation Fund for the reconstruction of the bridge on CSAH 34.

• Bob Gullickson, representing the Lake Volney Lake Association, addressed the board concerning the water flow from two culverts in a residential area of the lake. He said water flow has been greatly reduced because of the collapse of one culvert and accumulated debris. Asked for his opinion on the situation, Engineer Pettis said the question is who owns the culverts
