Legion plans Ice Fishing Contest & "Last Hurrah"

The American Legion Post 311 Ice Fishing Contest will be held Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, on Lake Francis in Elysian as planned, according to local Legion member Rod Reifsteck.

“The ice fishing contest is still a go, tickets are available, and there will be 90 gallons of hunters’ stew to enjoy,” Reifsteck stated. “There has been some talk about the contest being canceled, but that’s just not true. We’re holding it. So, come out and fish. And, we’re going to make it an all-day event!”

Following the contest, Post 311 invites everyone to the Elysian American Legion on Main Street, Elysian, for what has been coined as a “Last Hurrah” event for the Legion’s soon-to-be-remodeled bar area.

“We’ll be saying ‘goodbye’ to the old Legion and watching the big game. It’ll be a lot of fun,” Reifsteck stated. “Everyone is invited. Come see the old place one last time, and while you’re there you can help us clear out some bar inventory so we don’t have to pack everything.”
