Legion team falls to Farmington

The New Prague Post 45 American Legion baseball team squandered an early 5-1 lead as they dropped their second straight game Monday, July 1, losing to Farmington 8-6.

Post 45 took a 2-0 lead in the first when Brok Schwartzkopf doubled to drive in Cody Shimota and Auggie Isaacson.

Farmington scored one in the second, but New Prague added three more in the bottom half of the innings. Shimota had an RBI single and Heinz a two-run double.

Starter Daniel Feneis cruised along until the fourth inning, when Farmington tied the game with four unearned runs. They added two more in the fifth, aided by a wild pitch and another error.

New Prague scored one in the bottom of the fifth, with Heinz scoring on a doubleplay ball.

Farmington got that one back in the sixth to make the final 8-6.

Shimota and Schwartzkopf had two hits each, with Schwartzkopf and Heinz getting two RBIs each.

Feneis took the loss, allowing 10 hits and seven runs, only one earned, in five innings while Danny Beckius pitched two innings allowing three hits and one run. New Prague committed five errors.

New Prague has an 8-2 record. They were scheduled to play Northfield at Dundas Tuesday, July 9, and at Faribault Wednesday, July 10. They will be at South St. Paul at 6 p.m. Monday, July 15, and host Chaska in a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 16. New Prague hosts Apple Valley Thursday, July 18, at 7 p.m.
