Legion team ousted from playoffs

New Prague's Post 45 American Legion baseball team was eliminated from the Third District playoffs Saturday, with a 12-10 loss to Forest Lake.

On Friday, New Prague had advanced in the loser's bracket with a 7-4 win over Apple Valley. They opened the tournament with a win over Farmington Wednesday and then lost 9-0 to Mahtomedi on Thursday to go into the loser's bracket.

New Prague's 2-2 showing in the District Tournament gives them a 22-7 record for the season, including a league championship.

On Sunday, West St. Paul defeated St. Paul Park for the district championship, while Burnsville defeated Forest Lake to take third place. West St. Paul, St. Paul Park and Burnsville will compete in the State American Legion tournament August 3-6. The tournament will be hosted by the Excelsior Legion Post and games will be played in Minnetonka, with some first and second round games in Chaska and Jordan.
