Legion team starts playoffs next week

The New Prague Post 45 American Legion baseball team dropped two more games last week, with their season record  slipping to 8-4 after an 8-0 start.

      The team saw its four-game losing streak end in a dubious way Monday, July 15, with a forfeit win over South St. Paul.

      The team faced Chaska Tuesday, July 16. They will host Apple Valley Thursday, July 18, at 7 p.m. and Rosemount Sunday, July 21.

That game is scheduled for 7 p.m., but may be moved to 4 p.m., according to Coach Rick Bell.

      The 45s close out their regular season at home Monday, July 22, against Chanhassen.

      New Prague will enter post-season play at the Sub-State Tournament Wednesday, July 24. All games in the tournament will be played at Alimagnet Park in Burnsville.

 

Northfield 6, Post 45 0

      Auggie Isaacson had the only hit for New Prague as they lost decisively 6-0 to Northfield in Dundas.

      Ben Miller pitched the first five innings and took the loss, allowing nine hits and striking out five. Dan Feneis struck out two in one inning of work.

 

Faribault 11, Post 45 2

      Faribault jumped all over New Prague pitching, scoring 11 runs in an 11-2 win.

      Post 45 was led by Brok Schwartzkopf, who had two of the team's four hits, including a double. Cody Shimota had a triple and Paul Hentges a single.

      Shimota and Joe Heinz had the RBIs for New Prague.

      Hunter Peihl started and took the loss, with Schwartzkopf and Hentges pitching in relief.
