Legion team tops Lonsdale

New Prague cruised to a 10-4 win over Lonsdale in a Third District American Legion baseball game Thursday, July 1, in New Prague.

Post 45 scored six runs in the sixth inning to break the game open, then withstood a late rally from Lonsdale.

New Prague took a 1-0 lead when Austin Bachman led off with a double in the first inning, advanced on a base hit by Ben Trewartha and scored on a fielder's choice by Dan Ring.

Lonsdale tied the game in the second, but New Prague regained the lead in the third when Trewartha got a two-out single, advanced on an error and scored on a Ring single.

New Prague made it 4-1 in the fourth. Zach Dubanoski and Cody Sampson both singled. Tyler Beunig hit into a fielder's choice, retiring Dubanoski. Sean Ingebretson then drove in two runs with a base hit.

In the sixth, Sampson and Tyler Busch led off with walks and were sacrificed to second and third by Ingebretson. Nolan Hodapp followed with a base hit to bring in a run. Bachman flew to right for a sacrifice fly, then Trewartha, Ring, Scott Allar and Luke Busch all followed with hits to drive in runs.

Chase Buthe pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and striking out two.

New Prague had 13 hits, with Trewartha and Ring getting three each and Bachman, Allar, Dubanoski, Luke Busch, Sampson, Ingebretson and Hodapp getting one each.

As the season winds down the schedule gets busy for Post 45. They will play eight games in an eight-day period, including three doubleheaders. New Prague was scheduled to host Hastings in a doubleheader Wednesday, July 7. They play Northfield at Dundas on Thursday, July 8 and host West St. Paul at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 11. Post 45 hosts Faribault in a doubleheader Monday, July 12 and play a doubleheader at Eastview in Apple Valley Wednesday, July 14.
