Leona P. Ruehling, 87

Leona P. Ruehling, 87, of Belle Plaine, died on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine.

Leona was born in Sharon Township, Le Sueur County, on October 14, 1917, to Richard and Flora (Sinell) Ulrich. She was raised in Le Sueur and attended the elementary school and high school in Le Sueur. Leona moved to the New Prague area after her marriage.

She married Caldwell J. Ruehling on August 17, 1950. Leona was a homemaker and farmed with her husband and was also employed as a lab tech in the Green Giant research lab. She was a member of the Ladies Aid group at Friedens Lutheran Church.

She is survived by children, Ann (Gary Emmers) Ruehling, Minneapolis, Ruth Mickelson, Morristown, Martin Ruehling, New Prague, John (Maryann) Ruehling, New Prague; four grandchildren, Maggie, Curtis and Adam Ruehling, New Prague, Jennifer (Colin) Murphy, Rapid City, SD.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Caldwell, on February 11, 1998; parents; and one brother, Elmer Ulrich.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 28 at noon at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lanesburgh. Rev. Marcus Richter will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Earl Budahn, Allen Koepp, Roger Plekkenpol and Richard Ulrich.

Visitation is on Thursday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague and at church on Friday one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be at Friedens Lutheran Cemetery in Lanesburgh.
