LeRoy Svoboda, 87

LeRoy M. Svoboda, 87, of New Prague, died Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at Mala Strana Assisted Living in New Prague.

LeRoy was born May 16, 1922, in New Prague, a son of John A. and Ida (Ruhland) Svoboda. A lifelong resident of New Prague, he attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School and New Prague High School. He married Martha Havlicek on March 9, 1943, at Veseli. LeRoy had served as the superintendent at the New Prague AMPI Creamery, retiring in 1984. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a past commander of the American Legion Post and a member of the Third Degree Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife; children Donna Svoboda, Denver, CO, Margaret (Francis) Warnemunde, Burnsville, John F. Svoboda, Denver, CO and Anne (Dale) Zimanske, Lonsdale; four grandchildren; siblings Alvin Svoboda, Belle Plaine, Sam (Marian) Svoboda, Bloomington and Virginia (James) Scanlan, Tucson, AZ; and a sister-in-law Dorothy Svoboda, New Prague.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers Ralph (at age 3), Jerome and Lloyd.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Rev. Kevin Clinton officiating.

Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in New Prague. Pallbearers were Andrew Zimanske, Katie Zimanske, Dale Zimanske, Daniel Warnemunde, Colin Warnemunde and Fran Warnemunde.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.
