Library addition comes in under budget

The New Prague City Council awarded the bid for the addition to the New Prague Library to K.A. Witt Construction, Inc., for $96,921.

Tom Meyer of the architectural firm of Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle, LTD, presented the bids to the council, and said they were surprised all the bids came in under the projected $150,000 for the project.

The addition will house a reading room on the east side of the library.

The money for the project is coming from two sources. The Tikalsky family of New Prague is donating $100,000 in memory of Mary J. (Hlinka) Tikalsky, a local businesswoman. The other portion is a public library construction grant for $90,500 administered by State Library Services of the Minnesota Department of Education.

Meyer suggested some ideas for the remaining funds. Among them were changing some exterior cedar siding to copper, changing a proposed wood floor to maple and adding furniture.

Bohnsack said the council could approve the bid and do a change order if it wanted to some extra work done.
