Lillian Jirak, 93

Lillian Jirak, 93, of Lonsdale, died on Monday, March 6, 2003, at Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague.

She was born on December 12, 1912, in Le Sueur County to Joseph and Mary (Hanek) Novotny. She attended country school and worked at the canning factory in Montgomery before marriage.

On October 26, 1931, she married George Jirak at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery. They farmed in the Montgomery, New Prague and Lonsdale areas. After retiring, they moved to Lonsdale in 1977 and to Mala Strana Health Care Center in 1996. Lillian enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, taking care of her chickens and crocheting. Most of all she enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Phyllis (Myles) Malecha, Edwin (Rosemary) Jirak and Rita (David) Malecha; 15 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George, in 2001; three brothers, Joseph, John and Frank Novotny; sister, Mary Kocina; two great-grandchildren, Stacy Jirak and Christopher Hagerty.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lonsdale. Rev. Michael Sauber officiated.

Pallbearers were her granddaughters, Deb Skluzacek, Lori Hagerty, Kathy Kalina, Jan Christopherson, Cindy Graff, Pam Canedy and Kim DuPay.

Honorary pallbearers were her grandsons, Doug, Pat, Brian and Brad Malecha, and Kevin, John, Robert and Richard Jirak.

Visitation was held at 9 a.m. at the funeral home in Lonsdale on Wednesday.

Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Lonsdale.
