Lois Marie Hoefs, 82

Lois Marie Hoefs, 82, of New Prague, died Sunday, June 4, 2006.  She was born April 28, 1924 to William and Ernestine (Lehman) Washa. She attended school in Montgomery and graduated from Sherman High School.  She worked at Spors Wholesale Distributors in Le Center.

Lois married Norbert A. Hoefs on April 6, 1948 at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery. She worked alongside her husband on the family farm south of Heidelberg in Lanesburg Township. She moved to her present home on County Road 28 in 1979.

Lois was an active member of the Le Sueur County Pioneer Power Association where she was honored as one of the Grand Marshals at the 2004 Pioneer Power Show. Lois was also an active member of the St. John Lutheran Women of the Church. She took pride in organizing the quilting group that met regularly during the winter months. 

Lois enjoyed quilting, going to the grandchildrens’ ball games and watching the crops grow. She was a member of the Degree of Honor.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Kathy (Jim) Heyda, New Prague; son and daughter-in-law, Jim (Donna) Hoefs, New Prague, seven grandchildren, Jackie Heyda, Jodie (Mitch) Olson, Jimmy (Lisa) Hoefs, Jason Hoefs (fiancé Emily Beatty), Jill Hoefs, Julie Hoefs, and Joel Hoefs; one great-granddaughter, Alexis Hoefs; four sisters-in-law, Arlene Washa, Le Center, Philly Haefs, Henderson, Alice Hoefs, Belle Plaine, and Adeline Hoefs, Le Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, John Washa.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 8, at 1:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery with Rev. Robert Rendahl officiating. Pallbearers will be Lois’s grandchildren, and interment will be at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Montgomery.

Visitation was held Wednesday, June 7, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery, and from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church.
