LS County Board approves CUP, holiday hours request

The Le Sueur County Board of Commissioners approved a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) and a request for adjusted hours on Christmas Eve Day as part of a brief meeting agenda for Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the courthouse in Le Center.

Planning and Zoning Administrator Kathy Brockway presented the following request from the county planning commission:

- Jerry and Ruby Kramer, North Mankato (applicant/owner), a CUP for a single-family dwelling in a Special Protection District on a Natural Environment Lake (Silver Lake) in Cleveland Township.

Pam Simonette and Tricia Krueger, labor management co-chairs representing county employees, appeared concerning closing of the courthouse for the afternoon of Christmas Eve Day.

Following discussion, the board voted 3-2 (Culhane, Hayes, Connolly yes, Stangler, Doherty nay) that for this year only, the courthouse, highway department and environmental services buildings will close at noon on Christmas Eve Day, which is Wednesday, Dec. 24.

Also at Tuesday's meeting:

• Building Maintenance Engineer Jim McMillen presented information on replacement of jail doors and correction of work done on north steps of the facility. The board approved a contract with South Central Glass of Mankato for $11,799 to replace four doors. The board also directed McMillen to have north steps of the jail re-done as bid in contract with Widmer Masonry of Le Sueur.

• A repair request for County Ditch #9 in Elysian Township was accepted and referred to SWCD.

• Sheriff David Gliszinski was given approval to attend the MOCIC (Mid-States Organized Crime Information Center) Annual Conference and Training Session in Lincoln, NE, September 15-19. Sheriff Gliszinski is a member of the MOCIC Executive Board.

• At the request of County Auditor Ron Germscheid, the board adopted a resolution supporting the hazard mitigation planning effort and the Le Sueur County All-Hazard Mitigation Plan.

• Public Health Director Cindy Shaughnessy presented home and community-based services contracts with Nu Horizons of Elysian, which were given board approval.

• Following the regular meeting, the commissioners held a workshop for discussion of 2009 budgets. The 2009 preliminary levy and budget must be approved at the September 9 meeting.
