LS County denies vacation home rental request
The Le Sueur County Board of Commissioners denied an amendment to allow Retreat/Vacation/Private home rental in the Recreational Residential District within the county.
The board unanimously denied the request Tuesday, March 6 following a 30+ minute public hearing. The request came following the issue being discussed at a Planning and Zoning meeting last month.
The Vacation Rental By Owner (VRBO) is currently not allowed in Le Sueur County.
Commissioner Steve Rohlfing said he knows of approximately 30 of them and according him only four or five of these have been contacted by county officials.
"It is our duty as the county board to act on these," Rohlfing said.
A number of residents from the Lake Washington/ Jefferson areas spoke to the commissioners about the ordinance amendment.
"We have a lot of concerns," Jerry Lucas said. "There are serious concerns. The partying is obscene. It is out of control. It is crazy. It has to be dealt with."
Brenda Henneck, who lives a couple of houses away from one of the VRBOs voiced her displeasure.
