Luddy Johannes, 92

Luddy Johannes, 92, of New Prague, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at her home.

Luddy was born on November 29, 1917, in Helena Township, Scott County, a daughter of Anton and Helena (Wolf) Scheffler. She was born and raised in the St. Benedict area, where she attended school. Luddy married Benedict Johannes on May 2, 1939, at St. Benedict. Following her marriage, she farmed with her husband in the New Prague area. She was a homemaker for her family and many others. She did day work for many families in the metro area for more than 25 years. Luddy was very active at St. Benedict's Church, where she was a member and past president of the Christian Mothers Society. She was also a member of the St. Wenceslaus CCW. After retirement, Luddy was indispensible as a volunteer at St. Wenceslaus School. She loved to work and stay active, enjoying her garden, playing cards, baking, and especially her time at the cabin.

She is survived by her husband; children Cliff (Joyce) Johannes, New Prague, Bonnie (Leon) Geis, Leawood, KS, Clayton Johannes (and special friend Deb Becker), Jordan, Rita (J.C.) Carson, Colorado Springs, CO, Linda (Forrest) Lovley, Jordan and Cheryl (Steve) Skluzacek, New Prague; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Donna Mae Johannes; her parents; and seven siblings Lawrence Scheffler, Walburga Schoenbauer, Cecelia Stocker, Agnes Von Bank, Martha Kubes-Kromrey, Marcella Schaak-Frilseth and Katherine Ruppert.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 10 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Rev. Kevin Clinton officiating.

Interment will be at St. Benedict Cemetery. Pallbearers will be granddaughters Jean Becker, Sandy Johannes, Kathy Johannes, Stacy Schmitz, Steph Heffernon, Maggie Shiker, Heather Swegle, Gretchen Anderson and Katie Gustofson.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.
