Mabel Cesafsky, 84
Mabel Rose Cesafsky, 84, of Northfield, formerly of Montgomery and Lonsdale, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, with her family by her side.
Mabel was born August 16, 1928, on the family farm at Lonsdale, a daughter of Frank and Rose (Barta) Vosejpka. She attended country school, parochial school and for high school the University of Minnesota Agriculture School. Following her education, she returned to the Lonsdale area and worked on the farm and as a waitress. She married Joseph J. Cesafsky on June 6, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, IA. After marriage, Joe continued his military career, and over the years they lived in South Carolina, Kansas, Nebraska, Louisiana, Japan and Alaska. Following his retirement in 1973, they moved to Montgomery, and in 1986, moved to their home in Northfield. Mabel worked part time as a school cook, but her heart was in the home. She was known as a great cook, baker, canner and seamstress. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and the Northfield VFW and Legion auxiliaries. She enjoyed fishing, her flower garden, and taking care of her family.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years; children Janice (Mike) Schauwecker, Arlington, TX, and Robert (Maureen), Minneapolis; five grandchildren Jessica and Natalie Schauwecker, Sarah (Jimmy) Layer, Laura Cesafsky and Josh (Molly) Krueger; one great-granddaughter Ramsey; brothers Robert (Diane) Vosejpka, Owatonna, and Milton Vosejpka, Faribault; sisters-inlaw Lillian (Bernard) Tupy, Northfield, Mary Harrison, St. Paul, Lorraine (Bob) Barr, Waseca, Joanie (Ronnie) Scheffler, New Prague, and Connie Bartyzal, New Prague; brother-in-law Dennis (Sandy) Cesafsky, Montgomery; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Ben Vosejpka, her brotherin- law Ronnie Cesafsky; and sisters-in-law Alice Shetinski, Pat Jamieson and Jeannie Morken.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 18, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield, with Rev. Dennis Dempsey officiating.
Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday one hour prior to the funeral.
