MACC announces Kolacky Days button

The Montgomery Area Community Club (MACC) announced this year’s Kolacky Days button last week at the Membership Drive where members received the button when they paid their annual dues.

The button was designed by Sarah Dolejs, who has won the button contest two times before.

The MACC asked for designs in late October/early November and received four designs this year, down from ten last year. Although the numbers were down overall, MACC President Tom Washa said the board felt the quality of each design was high.

Each design submitted included the royalty and two of the four recognized the Czech Slovak Century by including the Czech Republic flag. This is the third time the Czech flag has made an appearance on the button, with the last time being 1951 (1937 being the first time). The country was then known as Czechoslovakia at that time.

This is the third year MACC has opened the selection process to all 206 members who were either invited to ask for a ballot via email or stop in before or during the MACC Annual Meeting in November at the American Legion.

“It’s one of the perks of being a MACC member,” Washa said.

As the winner, Dolejs receives $100 in Monty Bucks, a Kolacky Days T-Shirt, a limited edition oversized Collectible Kolacky Days Button of the design, two Kolacky Days buttons, and media coverage and to see his/her design all over the Kolacky Capital.

The Kolacky Queen also receives the honor taking the button to the St. Paul Winter Carnival in January to distribute to His Royal Highness, King Boreas, and the other royal members in attendance.
