Man dies in Lake Francis

On Monday, June 13, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center received a report of a possible drowning in Lake Francis. Le Sueur County Deputies, Water Patrol, Dive Team and Elysian Fire and Rescue responded to 22694 West Francis Lane in Elysian Township.

Upon rescue personnel’s arrival, it was learned that Richard Edwin Schoenstedt, 77, had been last seen swimming earlier in the afternoon in front of his residence. According to Le Sueur County Sheriff Dave Tietz, neighbors said Schoenstedt had a life jacket with him while he was swimming.

According to a press release, Schoenstedt’s life jacket was located on shore about 30 feet from where he was last seen swimming.

After a search, his body was located in the area where he was last seen swimming at 8:30 p.m.

Schoenstedt’s body was transported to Ramsey County Medical Examiner Office where an autopsy will be performed to determine cause of death.

The Le Sueur County Sheriff’s office continues to investigate.
