Man killed on highway, near Montgomery

Wade Young, Montgomery Messenger

A 44-year-old man was killed Friday, Oct. 30 after being struck by three vehicles at 11:30 p.m. on Le Sueur County Road 144.

When deputies from the Le Sueur County Sheriff's Department arrived, they found Randall Alan Zimmer, 44, of Montgomery laying in the roadway with fatal injuries. According to the accident report, deputies determined that Zimmer was walking on CR #144 on the southbound lane when a motor vehicle driven by Adam Wieland, 21, of Le Center, came over a small knoll or hill in the roadway and struck Zimmer, knocking him into the northbound lane of traffic.

According to the report, Zimmer was struck again moments later by a 2003 Chevy Impala driven by Joshua Kirchmann, 18 of Montgomery. Kirchmann was also driving in the southbound lane. However, he went into the other lane to avoid Wieland's vehicle that was stopped on the side of the road and hit Zimmer.

Moments later, a third vehicle, a 1997 Ford, driven by a female under the age of 18, was northbound on the road when she collided with Zimmer.

Because Zimmer was struck three time before officials arrived, it is unknown at this time which driver actually killed him.
