March Madness begins

While it was still February, March Madness was in full swing last weekend as two New Prague High School teams competed at state tournaments. The Trojan girls hockey team played in their third straight state tournament, losing to Warroad 5-2 and Alexandria 5-4 at the Xcel Energy Center to take fourth place.

New Prague junior Melanie Deutsch, took home four medals, including fifth place in the all-around at the State Class A Gymnastics Meet on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul. Brittany Ellanson and Jessica Hoffman also competed.

Meanwhile, four more New Prague athletes will head to the Xcel Energy Center to compete in the State Class AA wrestling meet beginning Thursday. Sophomores Travis Rutt and Caleb Lines won section championships and seniors Eric Olson and Jake Schoenecker placed second at the Section 2AA meet in Mankato to qualify.
