Marcy (Marcella) Bigaouette, 78, formerly of Lonsdale and New Prague, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, in Arizona, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

Marcy was born in Lonsdale on November 1, 1931, a daughter of Joe and Mary Vasko, and grew up outside of New Prague. Her parents were married in Czechoslovakia in 1929. She could only speak Czech as a child, and learned English in the 1st grade (she helped her mother learn English). She graduated from New Prague High School in 1950. She met her future husband, Jack, at a dance at the Park Ballroom, and they were married on June 9, 1956, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. They moved to St. Paul, later to the lake near McGregor in the summer, and Arizona in the winter. Marcy loved to travel, especially to the Czech Republic, and attending many Czech events. She was very proud of her Czech heritage, and taught classes on how to make Czech fruit dumplings. She liked flowers and being outdoors, but most of all being busy.

She is survived by her husband; sons Mark, Dean and Dan; a sister Alice (Junior) Ruhland, Montgomery; sister-in-law Joyce Vasko (and Bob Reeder), Montgomery; other relatives and cousins in the USA, Canada, the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany; and a host of friends around the world.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother George Vasko, St. Paul.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 7, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Oakdale.

Gathering of friends will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 6, and on Friday for one hour before the service.

Memorials are preferred to the family, for a Czech heritage project in Marcy's name.
