Marie Dylla, 81
Marie Dylla, 81, of Tucson, AZ, a former longtime resident of New Prague, died at home on Monday, May 22, 2006. Born April 11, 1925, in Grenville, SD, Marie was the daughter of Felix and Clara (Pionk) Breske. She attended high school in Webster, SD, after which she worked in Chicago during World War II.
Marie and Peter Dylla were married in Webster, SD, on June 26, 1944, and they made their home in Columbia, SC until his discharge from the Marine Corps, when they returned to South Dakota to farm near Andover. In 1949, the Dyllas moved to Brookings, SD, while Peter completed studies for his bachelor’s degree. In the fall of 1952, they moved their family to New Prague where Marie was a homemaker and Peter taught agriculture at the high school.
Marie worked at Minnesota Valley Engineering and later at Village Products in Chaska. She also worked in activities at Mala Strana Health Care Center. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed summers at their cabin on Sand Lake in northern Minnesota. In December 2001 she moved to Tucson, AZ to be near one of her daughters. She belonged to several bridge clubs in Tucson.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Sandra (William) Flake, Pensacola, FL, Col. (ret.) Rebecca Dylla, Tucson, AZ and Dr. Mary Jane Dylla and John Radick, St. Helena, CA; a grandson, Charles Flake, Greeley, CO; six brothers and sisters, Grace Burns, Watertown, SD, Ann Dylla, Litchfield, Anthony Breske, Sherburn, Alvin Breske, Waubay, SD, Phyllis Norris, Fort Collins, CO, and Georgene Hellyer, Milliken, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; infant son, Robert Charles Dylla; sister, Rita Day; and brothers Alois and David Breske.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 30, at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Tucson, with Rev. Gerald Mariani officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial.
A memorial service in New Prague and inurnment at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Memorials are preferred to TMC Hospice and St. Pius X Catholic Church, both in Tucson, AZ.
