Marie E. Kotek, of Faribault, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at the Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Faribault, following an extended illness, with her family by her side.
Marie, a daughter of Bert and Kate (Meehan) Hickey, was born in Erin Township, Rice County. She attended Shieldsville Country School and graduated from Montgomery High School. Marie married George J. Kotek Jr. on February 13, 1956. He preceded her in death on August 15, 2012. Marie worked at the Faribault Regional Center for 35 years until her retirement in 1997. She was active in the American Red Cross, was past-president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1562 Auxiliary, and volunteered for many civic organizations. Marie enjoyed spending quality time with her family, and enjoyed continual learning from reading and writing short stories.
She is survived by six children Herbert Kotek, Linda (Jim) Ackman, Mary Kay (Mark) Sisler, Paul (Pam) Kotek, Roxanne Kotek and Jerry (Kate) Kotek; 10 grandchildren Michael, Michelle, Kristopher, and Matthew Kotek, Nicole and Jennifer Ackman, Cory (Kayla) Sisler and Sean Sisler, and Jessica (Conor) McKeown and Erik Kotek; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son in infancy Francis Michael Kotek; her parents; and a brother Robert (Eleanor) Hickey.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Feb. 1, at 10:30 a.m., at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Faribault.
Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault.
Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m., and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
