Marion Smisek, 83
Marion Ann Smisek, 83, of Lonsdale, died Saturday, June 8, 2013.
A daughter of John and J o s e p h i n e Mracek, Marion grew up three miles east of Lonsdale, walking three to four blocks to the country school she attended through the eighth grade. Because there were no buses, she was unable to attend high school. As a teenager she took care of her younger sister and in the spring she helped a family at the hatchery in Webster. Marion met Myles Smisek at a dance and they were married on January 15, 1947. They lived on the Smisek farm in Lonsdale, and raised four children. She had a huge flower garden and at times, three vegetable gardens. She canned everything and baked a double batch of bread every Saturday. In 1972 they moved into town. Myles died in 1982 and she later moved to a townhome in Lonsdale. Most recently she had been a resident of The Villages of Lonsdale.
She is survived by children Gerald (Vicki) Smisek, Lonsdale, Jim (Rita) Smisek, Lonsdale, Sue (Mike) Rode, Andover, and Sandy (Jeff) Jewett, Farmington; siblings Bella (Fritz) Hertaus and Ken Mracek; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and a brother Jack Mracek.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Lonsdale. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Lonsdale.
Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the White Funeral Home in Lonsdale.
