Martha Weldon, 90
Martha C. Mardee Weldon, 90, of New Prague, died Friday, June 13, 2008, at her home.
Born July 8, 1917, in New Prague, Mardee was a daughter of James and Rose (Smisek) Franek. A lifelong resident of the New Prague area, she attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School, New Prague High School, Mankato Teachers College and Mankato State College. On August 31, 1943, she married Patrick W. Weldon at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. She was an elementary school teacher for the New Prague School District and also worked at MVE and Minnesota Valley Breeders Association. Mardee was a member of the St. Wenceslaus CCW, Dorothy Day Committee, Friends of the Library, and also served lunches at St. Wenceslaus School.
She is survived by children Patrick (Mary) Weldon, New Prague, Kenneth (Mary Ann) Weldon, Hutchinson and Mary (Norbert) Giesen, New Prague; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on January 12, 1950; her parents; three brothers Jim, Joe and Edward Franek; and three sisters Mary Augst, Ann Moilanan and Rose Halligan.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 17, at 10 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Rev. Roger Hessian officiating.
Interment was at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Belle Plaine. Pallbearers were Noah Kahn, Aaron Fisher, Jeff Karelitz, Eric Fierst, Josh Berg, Matthew Giesen, Luke Giesen, Adam Giesen and Ty Jones.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague. Parish wake prayers were held Monday at 7 p.m.
