Mary Fitzgerald, 83
Mary A. Fitzgerald, 83, of New Prague, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at her home.
Mary was born December 6, 1929, in New Prague, a daughter of Charles W. and Hildegard (Rosendahl) Mach. A lifelong resident of New Prague, she attended St. Wenceslaus School, New Prague High School, the College of St. Catherine, University of Minnesota and St. Cloud State University. She married John M. Fitzgerald on May 5, 1951, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. Mary was a homemaker, a Girl Scout leader, and member of the New Prague Historical Society, St. Wenceslaus Choir and Council of Catholic Women (CCW), and Hymnus Choir. She was also a member of bridge clubs and numerous church committees. Mary was well known for the quotation, “The world is a better place because English Bulldogs are in it.”
She is survived by six children Maureen (Richard) Hunt, Blair, NE, Erin Fitzgerald, Parker, CO, Brigid Fitzgerald (and Dr. Tom Stoy), Little Falls, Sheila Fitzgerald, Tinley Park, FL, Megan (Wolfgang) Bittermann, Heilegenkreutz, Austria, and John M. (Lisa) Fitzgerald, Broomfield, CO; 11 grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; and a sister-in- law Geraldine Mach, Pine City.
She was preceded in death by her husband on June 16, 2008; her parents; and siblings Ruth E. Svoboda and Dr. Ralph Mach.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16, at 12 noon, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Rev. David Barrett officiating.
Interment is at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in New Prague. Urn bearer is John Fitzgerald Jr., and honorary pallbearers will be grandsons Casey Fitzgerald Smith, Aaron Brown, Brendan Brown, Padraic Stoy, Kellan Stoy and Gilbrian Stoy.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague. A CCW Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
