Mary Skluzacek, 97

Mary F. Skluzacek, 97, of New Prague, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at the Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague.

Born August 21, 1910, in Wheatland Township, Rice County, Mary was a daughter of Charles and Josephine (Hruza) Sticha. A lifelong resident of the Veseli, Lonsdale and New Prague area, she attended the Veseli Catholic School, Scott County District School and the University of Minnesota Farm School. On November 23, 1937, she married William J. Skluzacek at Veseli. Mary helped her husband in Bill's Place bar in Lonsdale and New Prague, worked as a waitress in the Star Cafe in New Prague, worked with her husband in the Skluzacek Variety Store in New Prague and worked the counter at Bilek's Bakery in New Prague until 1976. She was a member of the Catholic Workman, serving as secretary for 35 years.

She is survived by children Elgin (Patricia) Skluzacek, Kandiyohi and Ethel Jacobson, New Prague; a brother Donald Sticha, Faribault; two sisters Adeline Bisek, New Prague and Elsie Smisek, New Prague; sister-in-law Marcella Sticha, Chicago, IL; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on June 14, 1996; a grandson William F. Skluzacek; her parents; two brothers Frank and Charles Sticha; and a sister Emma Kalina.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 22, at 10 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Rev. Kevin Clinton officiating.

Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in New Prague. Pallbearers were Michelle, Stephanie and Ted Jacobson, Guy, Jerry and Erika Skluzacek.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.
