Masberg leads WEM to Prep Bowl finals
The Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Buccaneers defeated Eden Valley-Watkins 21-20 in overtime Saturday to advance to the annual Prep Bowl.
The Buccaneers will play for the Class AA championship at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, against Moose Lake/Willow River, with the game scheduled for 4 p..m. Friday, Nov. 27, at the Metrodome. WEM has a 12-1 record, and Moose Lake-Willow River is 13-0.
The Buccaneers are led by junior Conrad Masberg, a quarterback and linebacker. Masberg ran for two touchdowns during regulation, threw for a touchdown pass in overtime and then threw a two-point conversion pass to win the game.
Masberg's parents are John and Lois (Weiers) Masberg, both former New Prague High School athletes. Conrad's grandparents are Bill and Marlene Masberg of New Prague and Leona Weiers of Union Hill and the late Edwin (Speed) Weiers. Bill Masberg was an assistant coach on the 1973 and 1974 New Prague High School state championship teams.
