Matching donations help heat up fundraiser

While there were some spicy dishes at HIS Haven Ranch’s Chili Cook Off the evening of Saturday, Feb. 24, at St. Wenceslaus Church’s Parish Activity Center what really heated things up was a matching gift that increased every donation of $25 and more. A donation of $25 was twice that, a $50 donation was increased by three, $75 became four times more and $100 was increased by five.

Laurie Baer of HIS Haven Ranch said the person’s inspiration was John 6:1-13. "Jesus’ feeding of the masses with loaves and fishes," she added. "We had one little boy empty his piggy bank. He had $203 and times five his donation became $1,015."

HIS Haven Ranch is a faith-based, non-profit organization that provides oneon- one mentoring for individuals ages 5 and older who are experiencing challenges in life. The ranch provides a place where people can realize hope restored in their lives. The donations are helping with the operation of the ranch, including purchasing a tack building and building an indoor arena and barn.
