Meals on Wheels delivers hot meals to seniors

New Prague senior citizens are among residents in Scott, Carver and Dakota counties who have hot nutritious meals delivered to them as part of the Meals on Wheels program.

Chris Heyda, local CAP Agency coordinator, helps prepare the 35 meals that go out daily in the New Prague area. The program brings meals mainly to people age 60 and older who are homebound or have difficulty getting around. Heyda works in the kitchen area on the second floor of New Prague City Hall, having the meals ready in re-useable plastic containers that are delivered by local volunteers between 11 a.m. and noon Monday through Friday.

Meals on Wheels does not deliver on holidays including New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving day, the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

The CAP Agency is a private, non-profit organization serving older adults, children and families in Scott, Carver and Dakota counties. The agency provides yearly services to approximately 28,000 residents in the three counties. The organization annually provides home delivery of more than 45,000 meals through its Meals on Wheels program.
