VFW Post, Auxiliary meet April 1

Gopher Post 5145, New Prague Veterans of Foreign Wars, and its Auxiliary, will hold their regular monthly meetings on Thursday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the Park Ballroom, New Prague.

Election of officers for the coming year will be held.

Lunch and refreshments will be served prior to the meeting starting at 7 p.m.


Scott Co. HHW Facility closed Saturday

The Scott County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility will be closed Saturday, April 3, for the Easter Holiday Weekend. The HHW Facility will reopen for normal operation Wednesday, April 7. The RE-USE Room will also be closed on Saturday, April 3.

The Scott County HHW Facility is located at 588 Country Trail East (Hwy 282), just west of the intersection of Highways 13 and 282 and Scott County Road 17. The HHW Facility is normally open on Wednesdays from noon to 6 p.m. Thursdays from noon to 4 pm, and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. The RE-USE Room is also open on those same days, but it does close 15 minutes earlier.


Lonsdale Golden Agers meet April 6

The Lonsdale Golden Agers will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at the Crusader Civic Center in Lonsdale.

Cards will be played and sandwiches will be served for lunch. Lunch committee will be Irene Horejsi, Angie Sirek and Elsie Sirek.

All seniors age 55 and older are welcome to attend.


Separated/Divorce Support Group to meet

The Separated and Divorce Support group meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at St. Wenceslaus Church hall in New Prague from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Come and experience support as you or a loved one moves through this time in life. The group is open to people of all faiths. The next meeting is Tuesday, April 6. Anyone with questions can call Mary at 952-873-6781 or Deacon Bob at 952-758-0463.


Prairie Quilters will meet April 8

The Prairie Quilters of the New Prague area will hold their next meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at the State Bank of New Prague.

Bonnie McCormick of Creative Fibers in downtown New Prague will present the program. Sue Tuma will also have a short presentation. Members should bring show and tell items to share.

Growing Through Grief group meet April 8

The Growing Through Grief Support Group at Queen of Peace Hospital is designed to meet the needs of those experiencing grief due to the death of a loved one or those companioning someone experiencing loss. The group can help through education and peer support. Whether the loss has happened recently or several years ago, this support group can help people through a lonely and frightening time.

The next meeting will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8, in the Solarium at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague. To register or receive more information contact the Queen of Peace Education Department at 952-758-8187.


Senior Citizens meet April 9

The New Prague Senior Citizens will meet at 12:45 p.m Friday, April 9, at the upstairs meeting room at the New Prague City Hall. The meeting is one week later than usual due to the Good Friday observance.

Lunch committee for the meeting is Hope Schultz and Muretta Prokes. Lunch committee for the May 7 meeting will be Lorraine Schoenbauer and Irene Unger.

Buses pick up senior citizens for local shopping every Wednesday. The bus goes to Burnsville the third Thursday of each month. For reservations call 952-496-8341.

All seniors are welcome to join the club for meetings, cards and bingo the first Friday of each month at 12:45 p.m.


Czech film to be screened in New Prague

The Czech Language movie Tri Orisky pro Popelku (Three Wishes for Cinderella) will be shown at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 11, at the New Prague Middle School Auditorium, 721 Central Ave. N. (use the north doors).

The movie, with English Subtitles, follows the classic fairy tale of Cinderella, but is updated in a live action feature. Cinderella rides horses, shoots like a sharpshooter and is equally comfortable in a hunter's outfit or a ball gown.

The event is free, however, donations will be accepted. The screening is sponsored by the Czech Heritage Club. Anyone with questions can call Marian Topic at 952-758-4663.
