Cub Scouts to host Pine Wood Derby

The Elko New Market Cub Scout Pack will host its second annual Pine Wood Derby Saturday, Jan. 12, at Eagle View Elementary School in Elko New Market. Racing starts at 11:15 a.m. All boys will race their cars three times throughout the event.

During the derby, the scouts will also be holding a food drive, which will benefit families in the Elko New Market area.


D-R-S League to hold meeting Jan. 14

The Dakota-Rice-Scott baseball league will hold its annual winter meeting on at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at the Classic Grille & Bar in New Prague.

The annual election of league officers and division representatives will take place and plans will be made for the 2008 season, which will begin in late April.

Teams competing in the league this year are asked to have at least one manager, coach or team representative present.


Legion meeting is Tuesday, Jan. 15

Charles Borak Post 45, American Legion, New Prague, will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, in the club room at the American Legion Park Ballroom in New Prague.

Dues for 2008 will be accepted. Lunch and refreshments will be served after the meeting.


Lonsdale Golden Agers to meet Jan. 15

The Lonsdale Golden Agers will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Crusader Civic Center in Lonsdale. Cards will be played, and sandwiches will be served for lunch. The lunch committee includes Jean Senftner, Lillian Uhlir and Clarence Smisek. Seniors are welcome to join the group.


Legion Auxiliary to discuss blood drive

New Prague's American Legion Auxiliary Unit 45 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the American Legion Park Ballroom in New Prague. Plans for hosting the February bloodmobile visit will be finalized. The lunch committee includes chair Charlene Skluzacek, Chris Haack, Angie Havlicek and Mary Jirak.


Twin Lakes sportsmen to meet Jan. 15

The Wheatland Twin Lakes Sportmen's Club will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the American Legion Club in Montgomery. Everyone is welcome.


Prostate cancer support offered Jan. 16

The Prostate Cancer Support Group will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, in the Solarium at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague.

This group is for individuals who have or have had prostate cancer. In a confidential setting, the group's purpose is to provide positive common experiences and serve as an educational forum for learning more about the disease, its treatment and other issues related to prostate cancer.

Sportsmen have corn to feed wildlife

The New Prague Sportsmen's Club and Le Sueur County Pheasants Forever will sponsor a wildlife corn feed pickup, which starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Marathon store in New Prague.

Corn will also be available any day during business hours at the Lonsdale Feed Mill. There is a two-bag limit.

Club membership information is also available at the feed mill.


KC free-throw contest is January 20

The New Prague Knights of Columbus will sponsor its annual free-throw contest from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at New Prague High School.

The contest is open to all girls and boys who are 10, 11, 12, 13 or 14 years old.

Those wishing to compete may register the day of the event; registration begins at 12:30 pm.
