CPR course set for Q of P



Queen of Peace Hospital is offering Heartsaver CPR —Pediatric Module—Infant/Child CPR from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, Jan. 29, in the Hospital Conference Center. This class is designed to teach infant and child CPR and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction to lay rescuers, particularly those who respond to emergencies in the workplace or home. Childcare providers and parents are welcome.

The pediatric CPR module includes diverse learning opportunities, including a videotape skills demonstrations and instructor-led practice scenarios. A course card documenting completion of the course will be issued.

There is a fee for the course. To register call the hospital's education department at 952-758-8188, or 1-800-584-6667, extension 301. Deadline is Saturday, Jan. 22.


KC Auxiliary to meet



The New Prague Knights of Columbus Auxiliary will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, at the KC Hall.

Dessert committee is Mary Jo Hruby and Mary Wick.

All Sir Knights, ladies, widows and daughters 18 years or older are welcome to attend the meeting.


CHORE services program set



The CAP Agency will present a program on CHORE services at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24, at Philipp Square Apartments, 116 First Ave. NW, New Prague.

CHORE provides help with indoor and outdoor maintenance chores to enable seniors to live independently in their own homes. Adults age 60 and older who live in Scott County and need this support are eligible for CHORE services.

The public is invited to attend this program, which is provided by Scott County H.U.B.S., Prior Lake. For information call 952-226-6670.


WIC voucher pickup is Jan. 25



The CAP Agency WIC voucher pick up date for residents of Belle Plaine, Jordan, New Prague, Prior Lake and Savage is the fourth Tuesday of each month. The next pick up date is 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at the CAP Agency, 712 Canterbury Road, S. in Shakopee.

Habitat for Humanity to meet



Anyone interested in working with a local effort to establish Habitat for Humanity in New Prague is invited to a meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Community Security Bank, 1100 First St. NE, New Prague.

This will be an opportunity to hear about volunteer activities in six different areas. Habitat for Humanity members from the South Central Affiliate will be available to outline these needs. This will be a great opportunity to match people’s interest and skills with those needed to get Habitat for Humanity up and running in New Prague.

The areas that will be covered on the evening of January 25 are: Church Relations, Volunteer Committee, Construction Committee, Public Relations/Fundraising, Family Selection and Family Partnering.

Persons interested in applying for Habitat Homes are advised to watch for information in all church bulletins and The New Prague Times. Applications will be available soon and their availability will be well publicized.

Support group to meet



All survivors of a death to suicide are welcome to gather on the fourth Tuesday of the month, January 25, at 7 p.m., at the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association (formerly Catholic Workman) meeting room, 1201 First St. NE, New Prague.

There is no need to register. This gathering is for parents, children, grandparents, siblings, neighbors and friends of someone who died from suicide. Call Eric at 952-758-5533 for more information.


Memory loss group meets



Mala Strana Health Care Center has started a new Memory Loss Support Group, sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association, open to all families and caregivers that are providing care for an individual with Alzheimer’s Disease or dementia/memory loss.

The next scheduled support group will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Mala Strana in the Great Room. There will be a speaker from the Alzheimer’s Association Helpline and Speakers’ Bureau on the topic of Understanding Caregiving. There will be time allowed for questions and answers. Blood Drive will be Jan. 26



There will be a blood drive for Memorial Blood Centers from 1-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague. For more information, or to make an appointment, call the Hospital Community Relations Department at 952-758-8190 or 1-800-584-6667, extension 303. A light lunch will be provided for donors.

Memorial Blood Center is a nonprofit, independent community blood center that is the sole supplier of lifesaving blood and blood components to Queen of Peace Hospital.

Memorial Blood Centers must collect at least 2,400 units a week to meet the needs of its 36 hospital partners located in the Twin Cities metro, northern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin.


KC Fish Fry is Jan. 28



The New Prague Knights of Columbus will be holding an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at the KC Hall, 411 Fourth Ave. SW, Highways 13/21 in New Prague. The meal will include fish, potato, salad, corn, coleslaw, bread, cake and beverage. There is a cost for the event.


Free throw contest is Jan. 30



The New Prague Knights of Columbus will sponsor a free throw contest on Sunday, Jan. 30. The contest will be held at the New Prague High School gymnasium and is open to boys and girls ages 10 to 14.

Registration is at 1 p.m., contest will begin at 1:30 p.m. Trophies will go to winners of the contest, and winners will advance to the district contest.

Senior citizens club to meet



The New Prague Senior Citizens Club will meet on Friday, Feb. 4, at 12:45 p.m. at the clubroom of the New Prague City Hall.

Lunch committee for February is Odelia Slinkard, Dorothy Jirik Moore, and Frances Koehnen. Lunch committee for March is Angie and Lawrence Brandel, Helen Javurek and Aurelia Mares.

There will be a special speaker from Cap Agency at the February meeting about sweeteners.

Buses pick up seniors for local shopping on Wednesday mornings. The bus also goes to Burnsville Center on the third Thursday of the month. For reservations call Cathy at 952-496-2341.

The club’s next meeting is on March 4. New members are always welcome.


Deer hunters banquet is Feb. 5



The Minnesota Deer Hunters Association of Scott and Carver counties will be holding their annual banquet on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Niesen’s Banquet Hall in Savage. Social hour begins at 5 p.m. To purchase tickets call Barb Breeggemann at 952-445-4396. Proceeds from this event will be used for education and deer habitat improvement.
