Low Vision Support Group is Thursday

The Low Vision Support Group holiday gathering is from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in the Solarium at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague. Vision Loss Resources facilitates a support group for individuals with vision loss. Participants are able to meet others who are experiencing vision changes and learn ways to manage this loss as well as gain insight, new ideas and see available adaptive equipment. Family members and friends are encouraged to attend.

This support group meets on the second Thursday of every month at the Hospital. To register or receive more information, contact Vision Loss Resources, 612-871-2222.


Grief support group to meet Dec. 13

The topic of this month's Growing Through Grief support group is Tinsels and Tears. Designed to meet the needs of those experiencing grief due to the death of a loved one or those supporting someone who is experiencing loss, the support group can help through education and peer support.

The meeting will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in the Solarium at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague.

Car seat safety checkup is Saturday

If you are traveling this holiday season, one of your stops should be at a car seat inspection. The New Prague Ambulance Service, in partnership with New Prague Ford Lincoln Mercury, will hold its monthly car seat safety checkup event from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 15, at the local dealership on Hwy 13-19 East.

Certified technicians from New Prague Ambulance Service will check child safety seats (including boosters) to ensure they are safe products, fit the children correctly and are properly installed. Expectant parents are invited to attend.

This free service is offered on the third Saturday of the month. Appointments are not required. Call Diane Hrabe for more information, 952-758-2530.


KC Ladies Auxiliary meeting is Monday

The next meeting of the KC Ladies Auxiliary is at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in New Prague. The group will have hors d'oeuvres, and members are invited to bring treats to share. The ladies will also be collecting food for the Peace Center in New Prague.

There will be $5 to $7 gift exchange for a man or a woman who wants to participate. Husbands are invited to attend.

Bingo workers are Dec. 18 - Marion Entinger and Sue Schmitz; Jan. 8 - Val Simek adn Mary Wick; Jan. 15 - Mary Wick and Val Simek; and Jan. 22 - Mary Wick and Sharon Schmitz.


Christmas party for senior citizens set

The New Prague Senior Citizens will hold their Christmas party Monday, Dec. 17, in the upstairs meeting room at New Prague City Hall. A luncheon will be held at approximately 11:30 a.m., with cards and bingo to follow.

Each member is asked to bring a wrapped gift worth $1.50. A dessert snack will be served at 3 p.m.


Alzheimer's support offered locally

The Lutheran Home-Belle Plaine and its chapter of the Alzheimer's Association provides resources and a support group for community members whose lives are touched by Alzheimer's disease and other memory-loss disorders.

The next meeting is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in the conference room at The Lutheran Home-Belle Plaine. The topic is Caring and Sharing: How to Cope with the Holidays. The monthly support groups are free and open to the public. Anyone with questions should contact Sarah Beckius, LSW, 952-873-2215.


Legion Auxiliary to host potluck supper

New Prague's American Legion Auxiliary Unit #45 will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the Legion Ballroom. A potluck Christmas supper with the Legion Post members will begin the festivities.

The lunch committee includes chair Gertie Chlan, Carol Bauer and Ruth Dols. The charter will be draped in memory of deceased member Nellie Carson. Needs of the veterans at the St. Peter Treatment Facility and a joint project with the Prairie Quilters Group are on the agenda. Members are asked to bring a $5 gift for the gift exchange.


Suicide grief support meeting is Dec. 18

The Suicide Grief Support Group will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in the Jameen Mape Conference Room (lower level) at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague.

Those attending should enter through the Women's Health Center doors (southeast entrance), take the elevator to the lower level and follow the signs to the Jameen Mape Conference Center.

Family, friends, neighbors and anyone who has been affected by a suicide death is welcome to attend. Call Sally Schmid, 952-758-4735, if you have any questions.


Legion Post 45 to meet Tuesday

Charles Borak Post 45, American Legion, New Prague, will hold a regular monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, Dec. 18, at the Park Ballroom clubroom.

Membership dues for 2008 may be paid at the meeting. Election of three directors to the Park Ballroom board is on the meeting's agenda.

A potluck dinner will precede the meeting at 6 p.m.


Twin Lakes Sportsmen to meet Dec. 18

The Wheatland Twin Lakes Sportmen's Club will host its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec.18, at the American Legion in Montgomery. Members are asked to bring a dish to pass for potluck. Everyone is welcome.


Holiday memorial service is planned

A holiday memorial service to honor a loved one who has died is planned from 7 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, in the Jameen Mape Conference Center at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague.

This event is open to those who have experienced the death of a loved one and wish to celebrate their memory - and the holiday season - in a special way. Christmas carols will be led by music therapist Rebecca Soderberg, and Chaplain Mary Jean Horstmann will lead the group in prayer and present a reflection, Evergreen in Meaning
