Christmas Memorial Service for Loved Ones Dec. 9



Queen of Peace Hospital will be hosting a Christmas Memorial Service from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, in the Jameen Mape Conference Center. This service is open to the public and is geared toward individuals who have experienced the death of a loved one. The service will include readings, music, and time for reflection. Participants are invited to stay after the service for refreshments and fellowship. RSVPs are appreciated and can be directed to Chaplain Mary Jean Horstmann at 952-758-4431, ext. 5269. Additional information about this service or about the Growing Through Grief support group can also be obtained from the hospital chaplain.


St. John's Choir Christmas Concert Dec. 11



St. John's Choir, Union Hill, will present a Christmas Concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, in the church. New and old Advent/Christmas choral works will be performed by the group. All are welcome to come to this concert and invited to stay for the 8:15 Mass that follows. Free admission.


Lonsdale Golden Agers meet Dec. 14



The Lonsdale Golden Agers will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, at the Crusader Civic Center for their Christmas party.

Cards will be played and lunch will be provided by the Lonsdale Lions Club. Committee will be Mary Nohava, Angie Sirek and Lillian Uhlir. Instead of gift exchange, bring a donation to the food shelf. All seniors 55 and older are welcome.


It Takes a Village to Support, to Teach, to Care Dec. 21



The Lutheran Home: Belle Plaine and its Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association provide resources and a support group for community members whose lives are touched by Alzheimer's disease and other memory loss disorders. The monthly support group is free and open to the public.

The monthly support group will be meeting from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Kingsway Retirement Living in the Ratzkeller. Kingsway is the newest community for seniors on The Lutheran Home Campus. Caring and Sharing will be the topic.

American Legion Auxiliary monthly meeting Dec. 21



New Prague American Legion Auxiliary Unit #45 will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 21. The potluck will begin immediately. Please bring a dish to share. All members to bring a $5 wrapped gift. Monthly Auxiliary meeting to follow the potluck meal.


Register now for Scott Co. Sheriff's Citizens Acdemy



The Sheriff's Citizens Academy is designed to dispel suspicions and misconceptions and to promote relationships between the Scott County Sheriff's Office and the community which they serve.

The Academy will meet Monday evenings for 9 weeks starting Jan. 24, 2011. Applicants should be 18 years of age and live, work or attend school in Scott County. All applications must be submitted by Jan. 8, 2011. Participants must agree to allow the Sheriff's Office to run a background check.
