Amnesty International group will meet

Two local meetings of Amnesty International, the world's largest human rights organization, are set for February. The group will meet on Sundays, Feb. 4 and 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Komarek Community Room of the New Prague Library.

Support group for mental illness set

The National Alliance for Mental Illness in Scott County, a support and outreach group for those affected directly or indirectly by mental illness (bipolar, schizophrenia, depression, etc.), will meet on Monday, Feb. 5, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Valley Green Workforce Center, located at 752 Canterbury Road South in Shakopee.

Local quilters group will meet Feb. 8

The Prairie Quilters of the New Prague area will hold their next meeting on Thursday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. in Room E109 at the New Prague Middle School. Those attending are asked to use the south parking lot.

Sandy Sasse and Reidun Peulen will present the program. Members are asked to bring show and tell items to share with the group.

Low vision support group offered

Becky King, Vision Loss Resources, facilitates a support group for individuals with vision loss. Participants will meet others who are experiencing vision changes and learn ways to manage this loss. New ideas and available adaptive equipment will be discussed. Family members and friends are encouraged to attend.

The low vision support group will meet on Thursday, Feb. 8, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the Solarium at Queen of Peace Hospital. The group meets on the second Thursday of each month.

Ongoing grief support available locally

Designed to meet the needs of those experiencing grief due to the death of a loved one or those who wish to help someone experiencing loss, the Growing Through Grief support group can help individuals with education and peer support. Whether a loss happened recently or several years ago, the support group can help individuals through a lonely and frightening time.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 8, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Solarium at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague and will continue to meet the second Thursday of every month.
