Scott County Household Hazardous Waste Facility to re-open Feb. 22 The Scott County Household Hazardous Waste Facility (HHW) has been closed for expansion construction since September, 2016. The program has been serving local residents and businesses since 1992. For the first few years, the HHW collections were held twice per year in the parking lot of the County Highway Department. However, crowds soon outgrew that temporary location and the permanent HHW Facility was constructed and opened in 2001. Initially, they operated twice per week, and after a few years that schedule was expanded to three times per week. Now, after 15 years of serving Scott County residents, and almost 10 million pounds of hazardous waste collected, they simply outgrew the original facility. The newly constructed HHW Facility is tentatively scheduled to re-open Wednesday, Feb. 22, at noon. The remodeled facility includes an expanded drop off area, a turnaround lane for better traffic flow and additional storage space for operations. The HHW Facility is located at 588 Country Trail E, near the intersection of Highways 13 and 282 and Scott County Road 17 between Jordan and Prior Lake.

Tacky Souvenir Happy Hour is March 2 The Scott County Historical Society (SCHS) in Shakopee will be hosting a Tacky Souvenir Happy Hour at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 2. Anyone who has ever thought, “I'd love to drink a few pints, then go on to make a souvenir immediately after” will have that chance at the Tacky Souvenir Happy Hour. The one-of-a-kind event begins at SCHS with a glass of beer or wine, winds through the "Wish You Were Here: Tourism in Scott County" exhibit, and ends with people making a tacky souvenir to take home. Tacky-ness galore, drinks, items to nibble and more will be available. People can bring along their favorite tacky souvenir for a pop-up tacky exhibit.
