Parkinson group not meeting in February The Parkinson support group will not meet in February. The group’s next meeting is from 1-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at the New Prague Library, 400 Main St. E. Care givers, family and friends are encouraged to also attend. The Parkinson support group normally meets the fourth Tuesday of each month, although that is subject to change. There are no meetings in July or December. Car seat safety checkup is Feb. 20 Parents and holiday visitors in the area are welcome to have their car seats checked for correct installation and recalls at a free monthly checkup event from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Chevrolet dealership on Highway 19 east of New Prague. It takes roughly 20 minutes to check each car seat; no appointments are necessary, and walk-ins are always welcome. Grandparents, expectant parents and others who transport children on a regular basis are welcome to attend. Trained Child Passenger Safety Technician volunteers with the New Prague Area EMS Association will check for car seat manufacturer recalls, provide educational handouts, answer questions and offer tips to drivers to ensure correct installation of all child passenger safety restraints. NPCL annual meeting will be held Feb. 20 NPCL Mutual Insurance Company's annual meeting will be on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the KC Hall, 411 Fourth Ave. SW, in New Prague. The meeting will start at 10:30 a.m. with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Suicide Grief Support meeting is Feb. 23 Family, friends and anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide are welcome to attend the monthly meeting of the Suicide Grief Support Group. The meeting will be held from 7 until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at the Mayo Clinic Health System, 301 Second St. NE in New Prague. Please enter through the Emergency Room doors (southwest entrance) and take the southeast elevator (#2) to the lower level and follow the signs to the Jameen Mape Conference Center. Divorce Support Group meets March 1 The Area Separated & Divorce Support Group meets the first Tuesday of the month 7-8:30 p.m. at St. Wenceslaus Church, lower level, 215 Main St. E, New Prague. The next session is March 1. Come and experience good support as you move through this time in your life. People of all faiths are welcome. Family to Family class begins March 3 Family to Family is a 12 week free class for family members and friends of individuals with mental illness taught by trained family members. Families learn current information on major mental illnesses, medication and side effects. They build empathy, coping skills, problem solving and communication skills and how to locate support and services. The class is on Thursday from 6:30 until 9 p.m. starting March 3 at the Environmental Learning and Event Center in Savage. To register, call Janet 952-890-1669.

Beyond the Yellow River has scholarships Beyond the Yellow River South of the River will award two $1,000 scholarships in 2016 to individuals, one to a graduating high school senior and one to a returning student residing in Scott County. Eligibility requirements are that the applicant must be a dependent of a member of the military (active, reserve or retired) or an individual who is currently serving or is a former service member or has a delayed enlistment and resides in Scott County. Application forms and information can be found on the website www.btyrsouthoftheriver.org.
