"The Grange" presentation on March 17 The Scott County Historical Society will host TJ Malaskee, a cultural historian with the Minnesota Historical Society, as he presents "The Grange: Champion of Rural America" from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, March 17. Learn all about the founding and history of The Grange, an organization that has been advocating for rural America and agriculture since 1867, and discover the organization's ties to Scott County. Easter Kids Kraft to be held March 19 Some Easter fun will be held at the Scott County Historical Society as part of its Kids Kraft from 10:30 - 11:15 a.m. Saturday, March 19. There will be Easter stories and songs, and a make your own special bunny craft to take home. The program ends with an Easter egg hunt in the Stans Garden (in the event of inclement weather, there will be an egg-themed scavenger hunt in the museum). This program introduces children to museums, supports literacy and provides an opportunity for great family fun.
MN Deer Hunter's Banquet on March 19 The Minnesota River Valley Chapter of the MDHA (Minnesota Deer Hunters Association) is having its 33rd Annual Banquet on Saturday, March 19. Everyone is welcome to attend. Social hour starts at 5 p.m., dinner is at 6:30 p.m. and the program starts at 7:30 p.m. There is a cost for the banquet for adults and youth. This year's banquet will be held at Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan. For tickets or more details, contact Barb Breeggemann at 952-445-4396.
Relay for Life meetings March 19, 21 Relay For Life of Scott County helps families touched by cancer. They celebrate survivorship, remember lost loved ones, and provide hope for families. Locally, they have raised more than $2.4 million in the 18 years of this event. That has made a difference to families, friends and neighbors as they have faced cancer. Relay For Life of Scott County is looking for new leadership team members with fresh new ideas to help host a fantastic 19th annual event this July. Informational meetings will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at Caribou Coffee, 7745 Egan Dr. in Savage and 7 p.m. Monday, March 21, at Caribou Coffee, 1361 Heather St. in Shakopee. Parkinson support group meets March 22 The Parkinson support group will meet from 1-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at the New Prague Library, 400 Main St. E. Care givers, family and friends are encouraged to also attend. The Parkinson support group normally meets the fourth Tuesday of each month, although that is subject to change. Suicide Grief Support to meet March 22 Family, friends and anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide are welcome to attend the monthly meeting of the Suicide Grief Support Group. The meeting will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, at the Mayo Clinic Health System, 301 2nd St. NE in New Prague. Please enter through the Emergency Room doors (southwest entrance) and take the southeast elevator (#2) to the lower level and follow the signs to the Jameen Mape Conference Center. NP Historical Society meets March 22 The New Prague Area Historical Society will meet from 7–8 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, in the Paul Komarek Room at the New Prague Library, 400 Main St. E. This meeting is open to the public and there will be refreshments. Dr. George Winn will give a presentation of period New Prague photographs taken from antique postcards. The photographic images reveal details that can not be seen with the eye. Nick Slavik will also read from the dairy of Peter Solheid, a World War I veteran. New members are welcome to join. There is a membership fee per person that includes a T-shirt.
Scott Co. HHW Facility closed for Easter The Scott County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility will be closed on Saturday, March 26, for the Easter holiday weekend. The HHW Facility will reopen for normal operation Wednesday, March 30. Please note that the REUSE Room will also be closed on March 26. The Scott County HHW Facility is located at 588 Country Tr. E (Hwy 282), just west of the intersection of MN Highways 13 and 282 and County Road 17. The HHW Facility is normally open on Wednesdays from 12 noon to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 12 noon to 4 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. The RE-USE Room is also open on those same days, but closes 15 minutes earlier. For more information visit www.scottcountymn.gov/HHW.
