Meetings & Events 5/02/13
AA groups meet regularly in New Prague New Prague Alcoholics Anonymous holds five meetings each week in New Prague.
The organization meets at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 8 p.m. Mondays, 8 p.m. Thursdays and 9 a.m. Fridays. Meetings are held at New Prague Alliance Church at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.
Alanon, for friends and families of alcoholics, also meets at 8 p.m. Mondays at Holy Trinity.
Narcotics Anonymous meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at FaithPoint Lutheran Church (the former State Bank of New Prague building). Call 952-457-2389 for more information.
Fish Lake 5K Festival May 5 The 10th Annual Fish Lake 5K Festival will be held from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at the Spring Lake Township Hall, 20381 Fairlawn Ave., Prior Lake. Immanuel Lutheran Church hosts the festival as a community outreach event. Everyone is welcome.
This year it benefits "Beyond the Yellow Ribbon - South of the River." This organization supports military families and individuals in the area. All race registration fees and silent auction proceeds will be donated to this wonderful organization. Its website is http://www.btyrsouthoftheriver.org.
Last year's event raised $10,500 for the Kerber Family Fund.
The family fun-filled day includes a free 1/4-mile kids fun run, several activities and caricatures by local artist John Busacker. There is great food, including Pastor Parrish's delicious pie and a silent auction. There is also a free concert by local bluegrass band "Loosely Wound."
The 5K run/walk winds around Fish Lake, south of Prior Lake. It is a certified 5K course and there will be awards for three overall finishers and three finishers in seven age categories for both males and females.

MS Support Group meets May 7 Multiple sclerosis not only affects the person with the disease, but their loved ones as well. The MS support group provides a setting for those whose lives are touched by multiple sclerosis to connect with others while engaging in lively discussion and gaining valuable information.
The next meeting will be held from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, in the Solarium at Mayo Clinic Health System in New Prague. Preregistration is appreciated. For more information, call the Mayo Clinic Health System public affairs department at 952-758-8956.
Czech Heritage Club meeting is May 8 The public is welcome to attend the monthly meeting of the New Prague Czech Heritage Club at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, in the upstairs meeting room of the New Prague City Hall. There will be a short business meeting with election of officers.
The program for the evening will include speaker Tim Tupy, born and raised in New Prague, son of Roger and Joyce Tupy. He is one of the operators of the Mankato Brewery. His great-greatgreat grandfather started the first brewery in New Prague in 1884. Come and hear his story. Lunch will follow the program.
Growing Through Grief meets May 9 Designed to meet the needs of those experiencing grief due to the death of a loved one or those companioning someone experiencing loss, the Growing through Grief support group can help through education and peer support. Whether your loss has happened recently or several years ago, this support group can help you through a lonely and frightening time.
The meeting will be held from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9, in the Solarium at Mayo Clinic Health System in New Prague. Registration appreciated. To register or receive more information, contact the spiritual care department at 952-758-8176.
Prairie Quilters group meets May 9 The Prairie Quilters of the New Prague area will hold their May meeting from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, May 9, on the second floor of City Hall. Gerry Worrell from Prior Lake will present a program on Underground Railroad quilts with samplers and small quilts. There will also be show and tell plus a short meeting.
