Farmers Market now open Wednesdays

The New Prague Farmers Market is now open Wednesday afternoons, from 3 until 6 p.m. The Wednesday hours started on July 2.

Jim Slinkard, market manager, said strawberries are now available, along with perennials, flowers, rhubarb, asparagus, radishes, onions, lettuce, peas and beets, kohlrabi and zucchini, along with honey and jelly, baked goods, candy, buffalo meat, bird feeders and bird houses, candles and more.


Czech Heritage group meets July 9

The Czech Heritage Club will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, in the upstairs meeting room of the New Prague City Hall.

The program will be Carol Kotasek, speaking about her trips and her Czech gift store. Everyone is invited to attend.


Growing Through Grief group to meet

Designed to meet the needs of those experiencing grief due to the death of a loved one or those companioning someone experiencing loss, the Growing Through Grief support group at Queen of Peace Hospital can help through education and peer support. Whether the loss has happened recently or several years ago, this support group can help people through a lonely and frightening time.

The meeting will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10, in the Solarium at Queen of Peace Hospital, 301 Second Street NE in New Prague. To register or receive more information, contact the Queen of Peace Education Department at 952-758-8187.


2008 Master Garden Tour is July 12

The 2008 Master Garden Tour date has been set. The drive-it-yourself tour, hosted by the Carver-Scott Master Gardeners, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at various garden sites in both Scott and Carver counties.

The tour includes five residential gardens and the many display gardens at the Scott County Fairgrounds in Jordan. Among the sights to be seen will be an espalier apple tree, a French drain, xeriscaping, fantastic water gardens and a Shakespeare garden.

Scholarship fundraiser dinner set

The Le Sueur County Extension Home Council will host a salad/hotdish dinner Tuesday, July 15, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church Social Hall. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

Pianist Emily Rouse of Maple Grove, granddaughter of Marvin and Elaine Willette, will provide entertainment throughout the evening.

Tickets may be purchased from Nancy at the Extension office or any Home Council member. All proceeds will help fund the 2009 Le Sueur County Home Council Scholarship.
