New Prague VFW to hold Sept. 1 meeting New Prague VFW Post 5145 will meet 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at the Park Ballroom Clubroom. This is the first meeting of the 2016-17 schedule. Lunch served at 7 p.m. All veterans are welcome.

Peace Center seeks fresh produce For many food shelves and those who use their services regularly, finding fresh produce can be a challenge. Please join Peace Center Food Shelf in New Prague during August and September to collect fresh produce from your garden for those who need it most. Peace Center is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Monetary donations can be dropped off or mailed to Peace Center, 313 Columbus Ave N, New Prague.

Family Canoeing at Cedar Lake Park Sept. 3 Three Rivers Park District offers a variety of paddling programs designed specifically for beginners, youths, families and women. It will hold family canoeing from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 3, at Cedar Lake Farm Regional Park, north of New Prague. There is a fee and reservations are required two days prior to the program. Call 763-559-6700 to make a reservation and reference activity number #447750-00. There is a 20 percent discount for groups of four or more.

Area Separated & Divorce Support Group to meet The Area Separated & Divorce Support Group meets 7-8:30 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of the month at St. Wenceslaus Church, lower level, 215 Main St. E., New Prague. The next sessions are September 6 and 20. Come and experience good support as you move through this time in your life. People of all faiths are welcome. Southern Valley Alliance for Battered Women needs volunteers Southern Valley Alliance for Battered Women is offering volunteer training for crisis line advocates. Training begins on Saturday, Sept. 10. They are seeking caring individuals who are able to volunteer from their homes, two phone shifts per month and are able to make a one year commitment. Weekly support group facilitators and child care volunteers are also needed. Gain valuable knowledge and build professional skills while assisting others. AWANA registration at Calvary Church is Sept. 14 The AWANA children’s program at Calvary Church in New Prague registration has been changed from Wednesday, Sept. 7, to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, due to unforeseen circumstances. The program also begins September 14. People are welcome to pre-register by contacting Joanna Taylor, children’s director, by calling 214-499-3982 or email jrtaylor595@hotmail.com.
