Divorce support group invites all faiths to sessions

The area separated and divorce support group meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of the month in the lower level of St. Wenceslaus Church, located at 215 E Main St., New Prague.

The next session is Tuesday, Sept. 4. People of all faiths are welcome. Call Mary, 952-873-6781, for more information.


Golden Agers plan meeting

The Lonsdale Golden Agers will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the Crusader Civic Center in Lonsdale. Cards will be played, and chicken will be served.

The lunch committee includes Jean Senftner, Delores Kalina and Sharon Kes. Seniors 55 years and older are welcome to attend.


Le Sueur County American Legion Council will meet

The Le Sueur County Council of the American Legion and Auxiliary will hold a quarterly meeting at St. Ann's School in Le Sueur at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5.

Le Sueur American Legion Post 55 and its Auxiliary will host the event.

The guest speaker will be Beverley Bliss-Foskett who will talk on identity theft and prepaid legal. Committee reports will be given, and there will be installation of county council officers for the coming year.

Legion and Auxiliary members of posts in Le Sueur County are welcome to attend this meeting. Lunch and refreshments will be served after the meeting.


VFW Post, Auxiliary will meet Thursday

Gopher Post 5145, New Prague Veterans of Foreign Wars, and its Auxiliary, will hold their regular monthly meetings at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Park Ballroom, New Prague.

There will be lunch and refreshments following the meeting.


September 6 is BeFrienders informational evening

BeFriender Ministry is a non-denominational opportunity for men and women to meet pastoral needs in their local church communities. This ministry is about listening with the heart to people homebound, grieving, going through a divorce, etc. An informational evening will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at the St. Wenceslaus Rectory, 215 E Main St., New Prague.

No registration is needed. The training session will begin in September and conclude in December, with a Christmas prayer/gathering with the seasoned BeFrienders. For questions or concerns, call Lois at 952-758-2138 or Ann at 952-758-3456.


Sept. 7 is Senior Citizen meeting and potluck

The New Prague Senior Citizens Club will meet Friday, Sept. 7 in the upstairs clubroom at the New Prague City Hall.

At 12:30 p.m. after the meeting, there will be a potluck picnic. Bring your favorite dish to pass.

Lucine Wendorf and Martha Hrabe will be hostesses for the picnic. Anyone who is unable to serve must find his or her own substitute.

Busses pick up senior citizens for local shopping every Wednesday. The bus goes to Burnsville on the third Thursday of the month. For reservations, call 952-496-8341.

Dorothy Jirik-Moore and Lil Doherty are on the lunch committee for October.

All seniors are welcome to join the club for meetings, cards and bingo every first Friday of the month.


Illustrator of Harry Potter book holds signing session

Mary GrandPre, illustrator for the American version of the Harry Potter series, will be signing books from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the Prior Lake Public Library. Those interested can bring up to two Harry Potter books for the signing. All are welcome.


Historic house tour planned

The Shakopee Historic Home Tour, which included tours of eight unique homes, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. Tickets are available at the Shakopee Community Center and the Scott County Historical Society, located at 235 Fuller St. S, Shakopee.

Tour trivia will include a rumored scandalous past at the Dr. Smith house; the Cavanaugh House's missing floor; whose names were scratched into some bricks at the Bjorklund house; the secret room in the Schroeder-Wagner house; and what was found hidden in the basement walls at the Vierling Farm house.


Fall brings storytime sessions to library

Preschool storytime sessions for preschoolers ages 3 through 6 who have not yet entered kindergarten will begin Tuesday, Sept. 18, and Wednesday, Sept. 19.

Both sessions will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Caregivers must remain in the building during storytime.

Toddler storytime session for toddlers ages 18 to 35 months will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, and will run through Oct. 25. Caregivers must participate with their children in toddler storytime.

Registration is required and will begin Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 10 a.m. and continue until the session is full. Call the library at 952-758-2391 or stop in to register your child.

This program, sponsored by the New Prague Friends of the Library and the Scott County Library System, is free of charge.
