Michael Barnett, 53
Michael Jay Barnett, 53, of Kilkenny, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Mike was born April 30, 1959, in New Prague, a son of William and Lois (Gieseke) Barnett. He graduated from Montgomery-Lonsdale High School. Mike married Shelly Tupa in Sioux Falls, SD, on December 14, 1978. He worked for the Le Sueur County Highway Department. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion in Elysian, the Dark House Association, and the Rice County Sheriff’s Posse. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycling, camping and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife; children Elisha (Darin) Hanks, Kilkenny, Matthew (Julie) Barnett, Rochester, and Samantha (Brian) Rue, Mounds View; a granddaughter Brooke Hanks; his mother; and sisters Kathy Malek, New Prague, and Diane Turek, New Prague.
He is preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 28, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Canice Catholic Church in Kilkenny.
Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Montgomery.
Visitation was held on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m., at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery, and Monday at the church one hour prior to the services.
