U.S. Marine Corp. Pvt. Lee W. Pieper, a 2001 graduate of New Prague High School, has graduated from basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, CA. He is the son of Ron Pieper and Mary Pieper.

During his three months of training, Lee studied the Marine mission, history, physical fitness, instruction and basic combat, military weapons, chemical warfare, crucible mission, drill ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, field tactics and first aid.

He also completed further training at Camp Pendleton infantry where he was selected as squad leader.

He is currently stationed at Fort Knox, KY, for technical expertise training in his military occupation specialties. He is a tank crewman in the Fleet Marine Force.

Mary Pieper, family and friends attended the graduation ceremony in San Diego.

Army Pvt. Luke P. Schweim graduated recently from the Petroleum Supply Specialist Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Lee in Petersburg, VA.

The course is designed to train students in receipt, storage, issue, shipping and distribution of petroleum, oil and lubricant products used by the U.S. Army. Training included instruction in petroleum and water accounting, operating equipment associated with fuels and water distribution and fueling and defueling operations and procedures on vehicles, aircraft and stationary equipment.

He is the son of Paul H. Schweim of Mankato. Luke's wife, Molly, is the daughter of Mike Hennes of Webster.
