Montgomery farm designated as Century Farm
Proudly displayed in the rural Montgomery home of Rocky and Carol Stangler is a painting of a pristine farmstead which once stood on the land that has a been in Rocky's family for five generations. That same 74-acre farm, located northwest of Montgomery along Lake Pepin in Lanesburg Township, was recently designated as a Minnesota Century Farm.
For 40 years, the Century Farms recognition program, sponsored by the Minnesota State Fair and the Minnesota Farm Bureau, recognizes farms that have been in continuous ownership by a family for 100 years or more. Program recipients receive an outdoor sign designating the farm as a "Century Farm" and a certificate signed by the governor of Minnesota and presidents of the Farm Bureau and Minnesota State Fair.
In 2016, 134 Minnesota farms have been named as Century Farm Program recipients. The Stanglers and two other Le Sueur County families, the David & Joyce Crow Family and the Davison Family, both of Waterville, will be honored as 2016 Century Farm recipients at the Le Sueur County Fair in August.
