Monty, Faribault, knock off Muskies in DRS play

Previously unbeaten New Market took its first two losses of the season, with Montgomery and Faribault topping the Muskies in league play last week.

New Market, Prior Lake and St. Benedict continue to hold down the top spots in the Red, White and Blue Divisions respectively as league play nears the halfway point.

Lakers 4, Muskies 0 Faribault handed New Market its first loss of the season, 4-0 Tuesday, June 3, at Faribault. Matt Lane shut down the Muskies, allowing just three hits, by Nate Rost, Harrison Ballantyne and Jay Chlan. Derek Bergstrom pitched a complete game for New Market, allowing three earned runs and striking out 12.

Orioles 5, Coyotes 2 New Prague defeated Shakopee 5-2 behind a strong pitching performance by Dusty Beckius. Beckius pitched seven strong innings striking out six. Dust Steinhoff pitched the final two innings to pick up the save. The offense for the Orioles came in the seventh inning with the game tied 1-1, when hits by Dan Shetka and Steinhoff drove in Justin Novak and Brok Schwartzkopf. Shetka and Steinhoff would score on a sacrifice fly by Dan Novak, followed by a single by Ted Nytes. For the Coyotes, Chris Pamperin took the loss. Josh Gregor had two hits.

Mallards 4, Muskies 2 Montgomery defeated New Market 4-2 Thursday, June 5, in Montgomery. Mike Flicek pitched six innings allowing just one run on five hits to take the win. Brad Flicek and John Krocak pitched in relief, with Krocak earning the save. Tom Flicek went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Tyler Bednar went 2-for-4 and Robbie D’Amato went 2-for- 3. For the Muskies, Harrison Ballantyne had three hits and Mike Carpentier two. Nate Rost took the loss for the Muskies.

Lakers 11, Bulldogs 0 Evan Knutson was the winning pitcher, getting the shutout as Faribault defeated Union Hill 11-0 in Faribault Thursday, Aug. 5. Bryan Lindner took the loss for the Bulldogs.

Irish 6,Warriors 5 St. Patrick defeated Veseli 6-5 Friday, June 6, in Veseli. Bill Dunker was the winning pitcher, with Seth Ambroz getting the save. Dom DeLuca went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two doubles. Derek Hahn homered for the Irish. Veseli was led by Corey Friedges, who went 3-for-4 with a double and Curt Brezina, who went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Matt Perkinson pitched a complete game for the Warriors, striking out six.

Mudcats 8, Coyotes 3 Jake Schmidt got the win and Andy Lazzari took the loss as Prior Lake defeated Shakopee 8-3. Josh Gregor had three hits for the Coyotes.

Bulldogs 3, Mallards 1 Union Hill defeated Montgomery 3-1 Sunday at Don Giesen Field. The Bulldogs were led by Adam Gill, Jesse Bastyr and Nathan Olson with two hits each and Matt Beckius, who had a two-run double. Rick Bell went seven innings, allowing three hits and striking out five for the win, with Daniel Feneis pitching two innings and striking out three to earn the save. Tom Flicek had two hits for Montgomery and Brad Flicek had the lone RBI. Ted Christian took the loss.

Lakers 4,Warriors 3 Faribault defeated Veseli 4-3 in a DRS game Sunday in Faribault.

Irish 15, Sox 1 Webster had six hits, in losing to St. Patrick 15-1 in a game at Webster Sunday. Nick Nelson took the loss.
