Morris/Washa win twice in section tennis
The New Prague Trojan boys tennis season is over following the first day of singles and doubles competition in the Section 2AA meet.
The doubles team of Eric Morris and Jacob Washa won two of three matches in the Section 2AA south subsection meet Friday at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.
The junior duo, seeded sixth, defeated Andrew Goodall and Kelby Stocker of New Ulm 6-4, 6-0 in the first round, and upset the No. 3 seed, Kieran Townsend and Will Mueller of Mankato West in a marathon second round match, 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 7-5. They lost in the third round to No. 2 seed Max Hall and Brandon Helget of Prior Lake, 6-3, 6-2.
The Trojans’ other doubles entry, Tony Larson and Alex Masberg, lost their first round match to No. 5 seed Stephen Badenhorst and Joel Koelpin of New Ulm, 6-0, 7-5.
The Trojans’ two singles entries were both unseeded and lost in the first round. Kyle Schoenbauer lost to Colton Collum of New Ulm, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, while Josh Kasendorf lost 6-4, 6-0 to Tim Haag of New Ulm.
