MSHSL redraws section lines for 2014-15
Cross country, girls hoops teams get new sections
The Minnesota State High School League announced realigned section groupings for all sports for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons, and for New Prague High School, athletic officials were for the most part pleasantly surprised.
As one of the largest schools in their class in several sports, most notably gymnastics, wrestling and boys and girls basketball, and with growing enrollment, it was expected that the Trojans could move up in several sports. Instead, they find themselves staying put.
The only changes in section assignments came in girls basketball, where New Prague was placed in Section 4AAA, and in boys and girls cross country, where the teams will return to Section 2AA after spending last year in Section 1AA.
Section 4AAA in girls basketball will include Hill- Murray, New Prague, Red Wing, St. Paul Harding, St. Paul Highland Park, Simley, South St. Paul and Visitation. Three of the teams (Hill- Murray, New Prague and Red Wing) are state tournament teams this season while a fourth, Simley, spent part of the season ranked in the top 10.
