Mudcats win three games to move up in DRS standings

Prior Lake won three games in the past week to move into third place in the Dakota-Rice- Scott League standings. New Market remains undefeated and in first place, with St. Patrick holding down second place.

Tuesday, June 7 Orioles 5, Lakers 1 New Prague defeated Faribault 5-1 using timely hitting, good pitching and excellent defense. Dusty Beckius pitched seven innings, allowing one run. Chase Buthe came in and picked up the save, pitching the final two innings of the game. Throughout the game the Oriole defense came up big, stopping potential Laker rallies. Justin Novak made a series of diving stops and Austin Bachman and Ted Nytes ran a few down in the gaps. Dust Steinhoff got everything going in the first with a two-run home run. The rest of the Oriole scoring would come in the fourth inning when Steinhoff, Nytes and Aaron Kes all singled followed by a Ben Buthe double. Evan Knutson pitched out of several jams to keep the game close for Faribault. Blake Langerud and Adam Kline had the two hits for the Lakers.

Wednesday, June 8 Mudcats 6, Express 2 In beating Elko, Prior Lake led 4-0 after four innings. Isaac Saad went eight innings for the win, giving up six hits and two runs, while fanning three. Justin Hackett got the final three outs. Jonny Houston hit a one out home run in the first to put the Mudcats out front off starter and loser John Hayes. Houston was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Cole Bjorge was 2-for-4 with a home run to deep right center. Jerad Lehrer also had a run knocked in. Tony Loehr was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. It was Elko’s first loss in DRS play. Elko runs were on a balk and a double by TJ Evanson in the eighth. Evanson and Kyle Kalina each had two hits. Justin King pitched the final four innings for Elko.

Coyotes 5, Irish 1 Matt Theis had three hits and Alec Pauly and Tyler Sloss had two each to lead Shakopee to a 5-1 win over St. Patrick June 8. Cody Pamperin pitched six innings, allowing just two hits, while Chris Isensee pitched three hitless innings. AJ Chappuis and Trevor Hentges had the only hits for St. Patrick. Chappuis started and took the loss.

Muskies 12, Saints 2 Nate Rost and Tyler Bergstrom both homered for New Market in a 12-2 win over St. Benedict June 8, at Elko. Nick Rost had four hits, while Nate Rost and Bergstrom had two each, with Bergstrom driving in four runs. Derek Bergstrom got the win, pitching seven innings and striking out eight. Paul Hentges took the loss for St. Benedict.

Thursday, June 9 Mudcats 16, Sox 6 Prior Lake scored nine runs in the sixth inning to take a 13- 6 lead en route to an eight-inning, 16-6 win. Webster was ahead 6-4 entering the sixth. Parker Hafermann started for Webster and went four innings. Jonny Houston finished 4- for-6 with two triples, including the walk off for the 10-run rule, four RBIs and two runs scored. Cole Bjorge was 2-for- 5 with a double and two RBIs, while Ben Morrison was 2- for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Jake Lehrer was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while Jerad Lehrer had an RBI double. Brad Schoenrock had a double and two runs scored, while Justin Hackett and Nolan Rein each had RBIs. Morrison got the win in relief, working four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and fanning seven. Ryan White started and went four innings, giving up six runs (four earned) on eight hits. Brooks Prochaska had three hits and Brett Hoffman had two for Webster.

Friday, June 10 Mallards 8, Coyotes 7 Montgomery defeated Shakopee 8-7 Friday, June 10, at Montgomery. No information was submitted for this game.

Sunday, June 12 Mudcats 7, Mallards 2 Prior Lake improved to 9-4 in the Dakota-Rice-Scott League with a 7-2 home win over Montgomery Sunday, June 12. Topher Rose went eight innings in the win, allowing two unearned runs, while fanning five. Kyle Schmidt belted two home runs. Rose scattered seven hits in the victory. Prior Lake led 6-1 after five innings. Schmidt finished 4-for-5 with two homers, four RBIs and two runs scored. Jonny Houston finished 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored. Levi Schneider was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Justin Hackett pitched a scoreless inning of relief, fanning two. Montgomery hits were by Tom Flicek, Pat Lloyd, Ryan Iverson, John Krocak, Eric Iverson, Trevor Smisek, and Aaron Dwyer. Jaron Christensen pitched the first 4 1/3 innings. Trevor Smisek finished the game. Smisek had seven strikeouts.

Express 7, Lakers 1 Elko registered a 7-1 win over Faribault in a DRS League game at Elko. No information was submitted for this game.

Aces 6, Sox 1 Cole Pint went 2-for-3, helping the Lonsdale Aces to a 6-1 victory over the Webster Sox on Sunday at Webster. The Aces used a trio of pitchers (Phil Tisdel, Ben Lazzari and Joe Sabal) to hold the Sox to one unearned run over nine innings. Tisdel struck out five in three innings, Lazzari came in and threw three innings to notch the win, and Sabal held Webster hitless over three innings for the save. Jeremy Wieland took the loss for Webster. He lasted eight innings, walked six, struck out seven, and allowed five runs. The lead stayed with the Lonsdale Aces after the fifth, when they scored two runs on a groundout by Lance Anderson. The fifth inning saw Webster score its only run on the day on an RBI single by Gage Bergman. The Lonsdale Aces scored one run in the seventh inning, and then followed it up with one more in the ninth. In the seventh, the Lonsdale Aces scored on an RBI single by Tyler Sticha, scoring Travis Scheffler.

Muskies 11, Coyotes 1 David Stewart and Kyle Bergstrom hit home runs to lead New Market to an 11-1 win over Shakopee in New Market Sunday. Bergstrom had three RBIs, while he, Andy Henkemeyer and Nate Rost had two hits apiece. Parker Holmstrom started and went five innings for the win, allowing three hits and no runs. Harvey Martin pitched two innings of relief, striking out four. Alex Johnson had two hits, including a double and had the only RBI of the game for Shakopee, scoring Tyler Sloss. Sloss started and took the loss for the Coyotes.

Bulldogs 4, Saints 1 Daniel Feneis pitched a complete-game to shut down St. Benedict 4-1 Sunday at St. Benedict. He allowed six hits and struck out six. Nine different Bulldogs collected hits, with Dave Anderson getting the only extra base hit, a double. He drove in two runs. Cullen Bahn hit a solo homer for the Saints’ only run. He had two hits. Jeremy Heitkamp pitched six innings and gave up one run. Chris Hartman pitched 1-2/3 innings of relief and took the loss.
